Kyiv with kids: where to go and what to do

Kyiv Planetarium

Planetarium in Kyiv is a great place to visit both for adults and kids. Not only you can take children to educational shows  and full-dome films about planets and space, but also enjoy live classic, jazz, rock, etno music in Kyiv while visiting the “Music under the stars”programs (it’s a chance to listen to quality live music while watching the stars show).

Tip: “Jazz under the stars with Solovjov&Band” is especially recommended. I visited the same concert a couple of times, and still can’t get enough of it.

Experimentarium

More than 250 objects in Kyiv Experementarium are not only on a display – the visitors can touch them to learn those laws that seem to be boring while studying in school. This interactive museum uncovers a lot of illusions, brain teasers and labyrinths. Studying can be entertaining, and Kyiv Experimentarium is a proof of it.

Oceanarium “Sea Fairytale

Take your children to enjoy the magical atmosphere of the diverse underwater world in Kyiv Oceanarium. Enjoy this museum, full of live exhibits, the inhabitants of seas and oceans of the planet. It’s a fun and educative pastime not only for children but for adults as well.

Tip: Check the schedule of exclusive shows such as sharks, sea turtles, piranhas, and devil-fish feeding.

Kyiv Zoo

The newly restored Kyiv Zoo is one of the biggest zoological parks in the territory of Europe. You can take your kids to enjoy walking around zoo and park, help them discover nature, and also get involved in eco-education. You can either take an excursion on the territory of Kyiv zoo or explore it by yourself.

Tip: Follow the news on the website about their special events, such as Day of Giraffe or Day of Elephant or other specific events, on those days there might be more special activities that you and your children could be interested in.

Seiklar Rope Adventure Park

Located on the territory of Park Partyzanskoi Slavy, on the outskirts of Kyiv, Seiklar Rope Adventure Park is a place for those who love adventures and extreme. Both kids and adults can climb up a rope ladder, walk the swinging bridge or the tightrope and much more.

You will get all the necessary equipment in the park, and the instructors will help you undergo training if needed. There are ordinary trails, and trails for professionals, so you get to choose one depending on your and your children skills. There are also trails for the youngest kids, as well as playgrounds.

Museum of Microminiatures

Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is not only territory with churches and monasteries. It also offers a wide selection of museums. One of them is the Museum of Microminiatures. See the world’s smallest book, recorded in the Guinness Book of Records, and many more exhibits, that are possible to examine under the microscope.

All the creations are made by Mykola Siadrystyi, a Ukrainian engineer, known as a man who “shed the flea”. The master himself likes to visit the museum and talk to the visitors. Museum of Miniatures is part of our Pechersk All Inclusive Walking Tour in Kyiv.

Tip: The museum might be closed on Tuesday (usually Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday can be a day when Ukrainian museums have so-called “sanitary day” and are closed) so consider calling in advance and asking. In order to get to the Museum of Microminiatures in Kyiv, firstly you have to buy a ticket to the territory of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

Museum of the Toilet History

One of the Top-10 most interesting museums in Ukraine, the Museum of the Toilet History is definitely worth visiting. Take your children to learn about the restroom culture from ancient times to nowadays. The museum itself is housed inside a 19th-century fortress which is an interesting architectural creation.

The museum will get you flushed with its big collection of lavatories, together with an insightful tour that will tell you about this common part of everyday life in different countries and cultures throughout the ages.

After the tour, you are also invited to the small cinema to watch some quirky mini-films about toilet-related inventions. You also have a chance to buy one of the numerous impressive souvenirs (no need to explain what they’re related to).

Tip: The closest metro station is Klovska (green line). If you walk by foot from the metro, it will require some hiking, as the museum is located almost on the top of the hill, so you’ll also get some nice views of the Pechersk area.

Kyiv Puppet Theatre

The oldest puppet theatre in Ukraine offers not only enchanting puppet shows, but also lets you admire a wide collection of marionettes inside the museum of antique puppets. The building itself that looks like a fairy-tale castle is a great piece of Ukrainian modern architecture. The former water tower with museum of water is not far from puppet theater. Perfectly located in Mariinsky Park, it gives you a great occasion for a stroll after the puppet show.

Terminal Aquapark Kyiv

The biggest aquapark in Ukraine is located just outside of Kyiv in the town called Brovary. The Terminal Aquapark contains 3 floors with water activities. A wide range of water attractions will give you a guarantee of a fun and active pastime. The big wave pool will make you feel like on the sea. If you want to relax, you can choose to visit a Finnish sauna, Russian sauna, Roman bath, salt sauna, or contrast foot bath. You can also find the fast food restaurant, sushi bar, and pizzeria on the third floor of the aqua-park territory. If your kids are playing in the aqua zone and you want to have some rest, you can have a rest in the recreation area that is equipped with sun loungers, and observe what is going on in the aqua zone.

Tsekh Climbing Wall

If you and your kids want to give bouldering a try, visit the Kyiv TSEKH climbing center. You’ll try rock climbing at lower heights, without ropes. Not only it will add some variety to everyday routine, but might inspire you and your children to explore more of Ukraine, and go climbing outside into hilly or mountainous areas.

Your children might also be interested in trampolines training, either with a couch or during group class.

Tip: Rent the specialized footwear, otherwise you will not be able to use the climbing wall properly.

SkyPark Trampoline Complex

Looking for a place in Kyiv where your children can improve coordination, and reaction speed and enrich physical ability while having fun? Visit Trampoline Sky Park in Kyiv and enjoy more than 4500 square meters of attractions, including trampolines, trampoline walls, climbing walls, and foam rubber pits. Your kids can play by themselves or take part in sports events and quests. While your children are playing, you can have a rest in Sky Cafe or play pool. It is also possible to organize Kid’s Birthday Party in Trampoline Sky Park.

Kayaking at Hydropark

Kayaking in Kyiv is a great way to enjoy the views of Kyiv from the water. You can easily rent kayak for two people, and show your children the beauty of Kyiv, or get them to learn a new sport. There is also a calendar of events, such as special kayak rafting (such as rafting on the Dnipro river, kayaking around islands in Dnipro, night kayak rafting under the bridges, and many more). 

Apart from kayaks, you can try SUP in Kyiv which is also available at Kayak Canoe Centre. You can choose a kayaking session to be part of your Awesome Kyiv Full Day Tour

Tip: Do not forget a hat and water, also consider taking shoes for change (e.g. flip flops that are not exposed to water damage). If Hydropark location is not the most suitable for you, you can visit their departments in Obolon, Slavytych, or Osokorky area.

Museum of Aviation

While boarding a plane during the Coronavirus pandemic seems rather a luxury than something we used to take for granted, it’s the right time to enjoy at least watching the planes. The Ukrainian state aviation museum is the right place for it. 

The youngest and the biggest historical museum of Ukraine’s technical history, today it owns the exposition of more than 80 aircraft and helicopters.
